Both men and women struggle with this ritual of getting the best shave possible in the limited time available in today's fast paced society. Most people will start shaving or removing unwanted body hair from themselves in their teen years. From that point on, it becomes a life long task. Back in the day, shaving was a skill passed down from father to son, a passage to manhood one could say. But in today's society, that right of passage seems to have been lost.
Today, one learns to shave from watching the soldier guy on TV, dry shaving in front of the classic piece of broken mirror. Or, from a TV commercial, which shows a guy dragging a disposable razor across his face with perfect execution and flare, resulting in the closest, most perfect shave ever. Unfortunately, many men and women who shave endure the cuts, nicks, razor burn, razor bumps, in-grown hairs and skin irritations. This is due mostly to the way in which they choose to shave.
On the market these days, there is a whole host of shaving gadgets and gizmos. Self lubricating, laser cut blades and disposable razors that guarantees to do the job lickitysplit quick. In most cases, these products will give you a decent shave but the question is:
What is the best shave possible? Simply put. The closest, smoothest and the best shave, is the wet shave.
Wet shaving is when you keep your face (or for women, their legs) wet with hot water before and during the shaving process. This allows the pores of the skin to open and the hairs to become softer for a closer, smoother shave. This is why the best place to shave is in the
shower. If you shave in the shower, you don't need to use any shaving creams or lotions to achieve a baby's bottom smooth skin texture. The next best thing, if you don't shave in the shower, is to make sure you wet your face or legs are really well with hot water and use a good glycerine-based shaving cream as well as a fresh razor blade. For those who have a shaving kit with a brush, you should consider using it. A shaving brush is used to spread hot shaving lather on your face.
The use of a shaving brush will give you a far superior foaming and propping up of the whiskers. A much better result than what your hands could produce. Brushes will vary in price and Bristol hair types but the overall use of any shaving brush will improve the closeness of the shave.
The type of razor blade you use is really a matter of personal preference. For those who have skin irritations or razor bumps the best razor blade to use is a double edged razor. These types of blades have been proven over many years to be the best blades for clearing up razor bumps and reducing skin irritation .As far as disposables go, as long as the blade is fresh (1 to 3 shaves old) you should not have too much trouble getting that close, clean shave using the wet shave method.
Don't forget to moisturize your skin every time you finish your shave. It is imperative that you do not miss this step because your skin will begin to dry out and may become sensitive. After being exposed to the hot water and the razor, your skin will loose its moisture as it dries, so be sure to use a good moisturizer to keep your skin from feeling any dryness or irritation.
