Missing internal rotation

Missing internal rotation of your shoulders may never cause pain (although it might), but it can cause dysfunction and loss of performance, not to mention a head that dumps forward, a back that rounds, and positional/rotational capacity of the head & neck.

Input is the name of the game. Where we see input in the periphery, we see better relationships at the trunk and spine. Once we appreciate the role of the shoulders in deriving stability through the trunk, we can improve the function of the cervical and thoracic spine. And maybe just put an end to those neck aches from working at a computer all day.

Just to be clear, were those serratus (antagonists to the chest and shoulders) band exercises? I think the Eastern philosophy (yoga and martial arts) is to "raise the head" (or upper back and cervical spine) while relaxing the shoulders and chest. That would imply that we are over internally rotating the shoulder joints and in need of exercises (that you are showing) to strengthen the antagonists that abduct and promote raising the head and upper back to assist with load. Maybe I'm misunderstanding.

Ok, so I was that guy, took me a few weeks to get the lacrosse balls. Today was my first shoulder/back daysince I got them and I did this WOD afterwards. I showed my super friend and he could clearly see the shoulder I did first. It was noticeably lower than the one I hadn't jammed the ball into. Good stuff.

Gotta try this! Super tight scalenes, lots of soft tissue pain all around collarbone and intercostals.  My osteo recently said my head looked like it had been walloped with a mallet - neck forwards, compressed.  Not tall and aligned.  The hunt is on for a ball with the texture of a dry cat tongue...
